Amwell Inner Wheel - Final Birthday Tea

After 33 years, Amwell Inner Wheel have now, very sadly, decided to disband. Their final event was a birthday tea to mark the tremendous amount of good works and service they have carried out throughout their long history.
We wish all of the ex members all the very best for the future.

Isabel Hospice

We were delighted to welcome Joe Dumont and two of his fellow sponsored cycle ride team members to our meeting on Monday 30th.
With support from Amwell Rotary Club, Joe and his colleagues cycled through 5 countries in 3 days over the May Bank Holiday and managed to raise over £6,000 for Isabel Hospice.
Marlene Duke, a Trustee at the hospice was also our guest for the evening and she is pictured below with Club President Colin and Joe as she thanked them for their amazing effort.

New Honorary Member

Former Amwell Rotary club member Malcom Lee was officially welcomed back as an honorary member at our meeting on Monday 30th June.

Although he is not able to attend meetings on a regular basis, Malcolm continues to support the club and its activities whenever he is able.

District Awards

Amwell Rotary Club were delighted to win two awards at this year’s Rotary District 1260 Induction Dinner held on June 25th.
Both were from the Marketing, PR and Communications Committee – one for club e-bulletin and newsletter and one for club website.

Ladies Day at Amwell

Following the success of last year's event, Amwell Rotary Club celebrated Ladies Day 2014 at Ascot with it's own Ladies Day luncheon at Great Amwell which looks to raise a substantial sum for Rotary supported charities and good causes.

Schools Technology Tournament

We had a fantastic day yesterday helping with judging and stewarding at Hoddesdon Rotary Club's Schools Technology Tournament. The 20th such annual event was one of the biggest yet with 28 teams from various local schools entered.
The challenge this year was to devise a mechanism to retrieve a radioactive meteorite (OK, it was a tennis ball, we couldn't find enough radioactive meteorites ...) from a container 1.5 metres away and then place it safely onto the target area. Solutions ranged from the simple to the complex and all of the teams competing had a lot of fun in the process
There will be more posted to our website later but, in the meantime, here are some photos.

More from The President's Away Days

Fifty members, partners and guests enjoyed a super two day break in Norfolk to celebrate President Colin's first year in office. The weather for both days was wonderfully warm and sunny and perfect for a visit to Kings Lynn for a guided tour, a trip to Sandringham and a walk along the coastal path - all of this coupled with the usual excellent Amwell Rotary Fellowship and friendship. The hotel chosen for our base, the Le Strange at Old Hunstanton, was very good indeed with excellent food and friendly and efficient staff. Many thanks to them for making our stay so enjoyable.

Thanks are also due to Rotarian Alan Phelps for organising another excellent trip!

Here are a few photos
